It’s all about the pack

There are a multitude of running packs out there suited to all sorts of running adventures. I’ve tried many on and have only run in an Osprey. When attending the 2012 MdS Expo I tried on the new official MdS running pack. Its comes with many attachments and ways of personalising to suit but ultimately it felt very comfortable. Also I felt it would be a great post adventure memento.

Therefore in a bid to start preparing for 2014 my first purchase was the official WAA MdS Running Pack. Its not cheap at £145.00 but in my experience you tend to get what you pay for. I ordered it from www.ultrarace.co.uk and it was quickly delivered.

So far the pack has had 2 outings. Firstly a 2 day walking event where I attached the front pack and kept it packed full of snacks and maps. The rear held everything for the night, change of clothes etc. I haven't used the provided drinking bottles yet, although the pouches are large enough to handle normal water bottles. The pack was very comfortable although there are masses of straps and there will need to be an exercise in trimming.

The second use was for a very casual 9 miler home following a 5k fun run. My legs were tired and my body felt heavy. I wanted to throw in the towel at 3 miles and I sweated a great deal more than usual but I pushed on. I have realised the drinking straws are essential as its a pain stopping to remove the bottles from the pouches, its pretty comfortable running without the front pack although I may need to use the side pouches for snacks as I think once the pack is on for the day it will be staying there. Lastly I need more practice running with the pack and it will now form part of my weekly schedule.
